The Main Street Electrical Parade is returning to Disneyland® Resort from August 2nd-September 30th and fans are so excited! It’s a nostalgic experience that you won’t want to miss! Here some cool facts about the parade that may surprise you.
#1. The original Main Street Electrical Parade at the Disneyland® Resort was created by Imagineer Bob Jani and Ron Miziker. There were also many designers and engineers from the Disneyland® Resort team that created this amazing spectacle.
#2 The Disneyland® Resort hired a company in Chicago that was known for its light displays on Michigan Avenue for production of the light bulbs. However, the Chicago Company became behind schedule, so the Disneyland® Resort moved all the supplies to a backstage area and hired a multitude of temporary works to assemble the floats as well as tint and install more than a half-million light bulbs.
#3. It’s rumored that the first rehearsal of the Main Street Electrical Parade was disastrous. Some of the floats collided and many of the lights did not work. Electricians worked hard to put finishing touches on the parade floats up until the moment of the real launch on June 17, 1972.
#4. After its initial launch in 1972, the Main Street Electrical Parade ran in the park for 24 years – the longest a parade has ever run in Disneyland® Resort’s history!
#5. The original floats consisted of the Blue Fairy, Alice in Wonderland, Casey Junior Circus Train, Dumbo’s Circus, Cinderella’s Ball, Chinese Dragon, “it’s a small world” and the American Finale. The parade featured a welcoming message by Jack Wagner, the original voice of the Disneyland® Resort.
#6 It is said that Walt Disney liked the Kansas City Electric Park, which had a nightly firework show and light-up floating barges. This may have even been one of the inspirations for the parade.
#7. The parade’s theme song is called “Baroque Hoedown,” which was created in 1967, has been tweaked with each change of the Main Street Electrical Parade. The most current version was created in 2009 and uses over 11 synthesizers.
